Office of Service and Social Action
Faith and service go hand-in-hand, especially on a Catholic and Franciscan campus like ours. Here at the University of Saint Francis, service is in the very fabric of what we do and in the fall of 2010, we opened the Office of Service and Social Action to provide you with even more service opportunities! The Office of Service and Social Action provides local opportunities to serve, as well as summer service programs.
Alternative Spring Break Trip
In 2008, Campus Ministry began sponsoring a trip during Spring Break that was not the normal vacation week. Alternative Spring Break sends students to do service for a week. We have sent USF students and a few employees each year to rural Kentucky to participate in the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) WorkFest – joining students from other colleges and universities from around the country, especially the Midwest.
We plan to send a group each March and would love for you to join! The dates this year are March 9-14, 2014. The group will be led down to Kentucky by a few USF employees who will serve alongside the students. The trip leaves on the Sunday morning of Spring Break (March 9) and returns to campus on the following Friday (March 14). Highlights include:
- Housing assistance (repair, painting, roofing, siding, windows, doors, walls) in Eastern Kentucky
- Life-changing friendships
- Foot-stomping bluegrass
The cost per person is subsidized by Campus Ministry, so each person only has to pay $100. This includes transportation, lodging and all food. If you are interested in participating in CAP WorkFest, please email Kim Rockett no later than Wednesday, February 5.
